Ms. Kristen Lyn Freeman

Kristen was born in Mobile, Alabama, on June 11, 1975, to Denson and Mary Freeman. She was the youngest of the Freeman family—the baby sister to De and Ty. Kristen grew up in Foley and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Her faith was nurtured through both parish life and diocesan ministries, including Happening, a Christian youth ministry that meant a great deal to her during her teenage years. She attended Foley High School, where she served on the yearbook staff, spending countless hours documenting cherished memories shared with the friends she grew up with. As a teenager, Kristen held part-time jobs at Waterville and Sea ’n Suds. However, the highlight of her summers was time spent at Camp Beckwith. There, she connected with kindred spirits who became beloved and loyal friends—relationships that would last throughout her life. Kristen graduated from Foley High School in 1993 and continued her education at Auburn University, where she graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design. A true artist, Kristen loved painting and creating beautiful things. After college, she worked as a designer for Merrill Miller. In 2002, her passion for art led her to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she managed Plum Nelly, an elite American craft gallery. Kristen had an adventurous spirit and loved traveling and exploring new places. She was full of life and embraced every opportunity to gather with her family. Auburn football was a cherished Freeman family tradition, and Kristen loved every minute of it. Any time spent together was time well spent. Kristen lived for nearly twenty years with paralysis, facing daily limitations with courage and grace. She was a beautiful light in this world, known for her radiant smile and her ability to make others feel truly seen and included. Her naturally charismatic personality drew people in, forming friendships that endured across seasons of life. Her faith in Jesus Christ shaped her character and grounded her in compassion, strength, and humility. We will miss her terribly, but we find comfort in knowing that Kristen is now in the presence of our Heavenly Father, her earthly body completely healed. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to the many caregivers who supported Kristen with dedication and love over the years. In particular, we give special thanks to Rebekah Nelson, Jessica Brown, Kali Nelson, and Elizabeth Franklin, whose kindness, friendship, loyalty, and compassionate care were a profound gift during Kristen’s later years. Kristen is survived by her parents, Mary and Denson Freeman; her brothers, De (Stephanie) and Ty (Nicki); and her nieces and nephews, Hayden, Hunter, Logan, Jace, Dylan, MacKenzie, and Emmie. A Celebration of Life will take place at St. James Episcopal Church in Fairhope, AL on January 10 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church.
