Obituary for William Charles Wood (Aug 13, 1960 – Apr 26, 2018) William (Bill) Charles Wood, 57 of Fairhope, Alabama would like you all to know that his work here is done. He received a call, an offer he couldn’t refuse for an appointment from which he will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends he has not seen in a long time. Job Security is exactly 110%. His new role will take him to a place where he will be socializing, riding, and golfing to his heart’s content. The grass grows so fast he can cut it daily and there’s always a cold beer waiting when he’s done and where filet mignon is served 24/7 off the Big Green Egg. He left explicit instructions to his sons to celebrate his mission here, which has now been completed. A native of Sarasota, Florida, Bill was born on August 13, 1960 to Jack Donald Wood, and Catherine Wood. Moving to St. Petersburg, Florida at a young age, he attended Lakewood and Gibbs High Schools where he established the first of many lifelong relationships. He would go on to commence a rewarding career in retail management where he set the standards by which others were measured. Finding great success, he was often sought out as the guy to turn things around. He would go on to manage multiple retail locations across Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Louisianna, and Alabama, before finally settling in Fairhope, AL in 2001. Throughout his life, he shaped and touched the lives of many, none more so than those of his family and friends, and of course those within his community. From an early age, he was an avid saltwater fisherman and he loved being on the water and doing anything outdoors. Known by many as a Master Griller, he hung up those fishing poles and traded them in for Golf Clubs, which he enjoyed watching just as much as he did playing. He developed a passion for motorcycles and took advantage of any local charity events to raise money and ride, be it for the Warriors, the Angels, or a local family in need. He very much enjoyed the camaraderie he found in the riding community and ultimately with the American Legion Post 199 in Fairhiope, AL, where he forged a kinsmanship with members and patrons alike. He loved Fairhope and the wonderful people of this great community. Bill is survived by four sons, Christopher Charles Wood and his wife Jennifer Ann Wood of Navarre, Florida, Albert Winston Wood and his wife Erica Lynn Wood, William Donald Wood, Michael Wayne Wood and his wife Angel Janette Wood; of Fairhope, Alabama; parents Jack Donald Wood and Catherine Wood of Wimauma, Florida; sisters Jacqueline Kay Cameron of Daphne, Alabama, Debbie Joanne Sibley of St. Petersburg, Florida and Connie Lee Litzell of Atlanta, Georgia and 10 amazing grandchildren. A Celebration of Life event will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. for his local family, friends, and acquaintances at the American Legion Post 199, 700 S Mobile St, Fairhope, AL 36532. Folks attending are encouraged to bring a dish to the potluck style event and plenty of stories about Bill to share. A second Celebration of Life event will be held in St. Petersburg, FL on Sunday, June 10 for his family and close family friends. In memory of Bill Wood and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Legion Post 199 in Fairhope, AL 700 S Mobile St, Fairhope, AL 36532, so they can continue to provide support to the many local community causes that were important to Bill.
