Mrs. Leila Mae Younce Smith

Leila Mae Younce Smith, born in the Sonora Community of Foley, Alabama on October 30, 1925, and a lifelong resident of Foley, passed away at her home on George Younce Road (named after her Dad) on October 28, 2024, two days shy of her 99th birthday. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Ida Younce, her husband of 75 years, James C. Smith, and seven siblings, Howard Younce, Doris Younce, Paul Younce, Lester Younce, Hubert Younce, Grace Nelson, and Barbara Williams. She leaves behind her sister Marjorie Snook, and four sons Lester (Elaine) Smith, Herbert (Sue) Smith, Tommy (Jo) Smith and Mike (Debbie) Smith. In addition to that, she leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Keith Smith, Kim Smith Webster, Jill Smith Young, Leigh Smith Fauber, Rusty Smith, Eric Smith, Tara Smith, Ian Smith, Shannon Smith McIntosh, Lauren Izen, Michael Smith, Jason Smith, and Kevin Smith, and 25 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Mae attended Summerdale School as a student. Mae’s main interests in life were church and family. She was baptized into Christ in 1948 and was a member of the Foley Church of Christ and the Summerdale Church of Christ for a total of 76 years. She was a devoted Christian Lady and put God first in her life all of those years. If the church doors were open, she was there on Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights unless she was to sick to be there or was taking care of someone who was sick. Two of her daily passions were reading her Bible and praying often for her family and friends. Mae loved her family greatly and was loved in like manner by her family. A special note regarding her four sons was that she loved them dearly and had a tremendous desire to see them perform in as many of their athletic events as possible whether the events were at home or away. Mae was a great cook and also enjoyed needlepoint and embroidery. One of her specialties cooking wise was German Chocolate Cake. Mae will be greatly missed by her family, church friends, and many other friends. A special thank you is in order for Marjorie Snook and Jerry and Sandy Daugherty and Tina Welch who helped her and took care of her for several years. In addition to that, the family would like to thank hospice for their care and concern in her last days and also several caregivers who were very helpful, supportive and caring. Among those are Kellee Mum, Kelli Jackson, Angela Devoss, Karen Cole and April Singleton. Pallbearers are Lester Smith, Herb Smith, Tommy Smith, Mike Smith, Jerry Daughtery, Keith Smith and Dallas Wyatt. Funeral services will be held form Summerdale Church of Christ on Monday November 4, 2024 at 11AM. The family will receive friends on Monday from 10-11AM at the church. Interment will be in Pine Rest Memorial Park.
