Mr. Floyd Andrew "Skip" Davis

Floyd Andrew Davis, known by most as “Skip,” passed away on February 8, 2024, at the age of 86 in Foley, Alabama. He was born on October 16, 1937, in Canandaigua, New York, to Francis “Happy” and Helen Dorman Davis. Skip was a man who served his country and community in many different capacities. Moving to Barin Field after he graduated high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1958 and was stationed in Hawaii as a newlywed. He served on the Foley City Council, and he was a past congregation president of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and later a dedicated member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Skip brought a number of successful businesses to our community including the Foley Ambulance Company, Davco, and Classic Properties which later became ERA Class.Com, where he also served as a Real Estate Instructor and a former member of Real Estate Leaders of America. He was awarded Outstanding Young Man of America and the Walter M. Vines Free Enterprise Person of 2004. Known for his generosity and willingness to help anyone, it was a regular occurrence for him to go out to dinner and hear someone say, “Hello, Skip!” Skip is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Patricia Roberts Davis, and his two sons Richard (Margaret) Davis and Michael “Randy” (Lori) Davis. He was a proud grandfather to Lesli (Bill) Fason, Richard, Jr. (Marrilee) Davis, Laura (Laura Burke) Davis, Michael, Jr. (Brooke) Davis, Leah Cooper, and Will Davis. He had the joy of being a great-grandfather to Sam, Mollie, Laekin, Oaklie, Maci, Olivia, Tripp, Laney, Clay and Richard, III. He is also survived by his brothers, Gene (Sharon) Davis and Ray (Linda) Davis. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and his brother Ron Davis, who was married to Carol Davis. In light of all of his accomplishments and services, Skip will be best remembered by his love for music, including singing with his brothers and directing Christmas cantatas; his knack for telling stories to his loved ones around the dinner table; and his grilling skills on Sunday evenings on his custom-built porch grill (closely followed by his two-handed 35-foot set shot up and over the powerlines with his sons and friends on the driveway basketball court). Skip will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all he knew in the community. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations would be sent to renovate a treasured schoolhouse where he grew up and where his mother attended school or St. Mark’s Lutheran Building Fund.
