Bobby Allen Mooring

Mr. Bobby Allen Mooring died peacefully on September 3, 2017 at his home in Mobile, AL at the age of 77. Mr. Mooring is survived by his wife, Angela Mallini Dixon Mooring, his daughters Melissa De Maria (Dr. Christopher De Maria) and Michelle Daray (Steve Daray), former spouse Sharon Long Mooring, Steve Dixon (Melissa Dixon), Mark Dixon and Lauren Gregory. He had 5 grandchildren Carissa De Maria Stich (David Stich), Christina De Maria, Chelsea Daray, Thomas LeGros and Benjamin Parker Dixon and one great grandson Dean Stich. Mr. Mooring was born November 9, 1939 in Dixon Mills, Alabama to Jackson Burke and Leila Gardner Mooring. He graduated from Baker High School in 1958, University of South Alabama in 1989 with a BS in Human Resource Management and in 1993 with a Masters in Graduate Counselor Education. He married Sharon Lee Long, his high school sweetheart in 1959. He enlisted in the Army in 1961, transferred into the Alabama National Guard in 1962 where he continued his military career from which he retired in 1999. During his time in the military he achieved the rank of Master Sargent, served as a Green Beret and a National Guard Recruiter. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1984. He married his current wife, Angela Mallini Dixon in 2005. Mr. Mooring was a Civil Air Patrol Pilot, held a Commercial Pilots license and a Transport Pilots License, was a Certified Flight Instructor and a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. He co-founded the Flight Training of Mobile, LLC. As a Flight Instructor and Examiner, he trained and licensed many pilots throughout the State of Alabama. Mr. Mooring was a man of integrity. The military and his love of country were a main stay in his life. He strived for excellence in everything that he did, demonstrating this during his long military career. Overcoming stuttering he excelled as a student, a pilot, and an instructor.. In 1987, he helped found the Mobile Chapter of the National Stuttering Project. He became a member of the Fifty Funny Fellows Society in 2005. He became a Master Gardener in 2011. Heartfelt thanks to Saint Joseph’s Hospice and First Lite Home Care for the professional and loving care they provided. Mass of Christian burial will be held September 29, 2017 at Our Lady of Lourdes, 1621 Boykin Blvd, Mobile with Visitation at 9:00 am, Funeral Mass at 10:00 am, Tributes at 11:00 am in the Parish Hall with interment at Alabama State Veterans Cemetery at Spanish Fort at 1:30.
