Mrs. Sung Bun Parnell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sung Bun Parnell (Kim) born July 5, 1940 died March 20, 2022. Preceded in death by her husband, Jerrel E. Parnell, she is survived by siblings, numerous nieces & nephews, her 3 children, SunJa Patrickis, Karl Parnell, & Marilyn Price (Randall), 7 grandchildren, & 7 great grandchildren. During her nearly 82 years, Kim, as her friends called her, lived a very colorful life. Her young years were spent in South Korea where she was orphaned as a young child & learned very early in life how to provide for herself. While Kim endured much hardship at a young age, she managed to leave quite a legacy for her children. Much of her early in life trials were never even known to her children until she shared these stories with her grandchildren many years later. Kim was a loving wife & mother. She set an amazing example of a what we should all strive to be. A longtime member of the Korean Baptist church, she challenged each of us to pray & loved to share a song ( usually in Korean) with any willing to listen. The woman born Sung Bun Kim lived the American dream. She studied & became a U.S. citizen. Kim & Jerry, married for over 45 years, enjoyed the finer things in life, and they taught their children & grandchildren that it was okay to like nice things if you are willing to work for them. A hard worker, Kim managed & ran multiple restaurants, became a successful business woman, and ultimately worked for the State of Alabama at the Gulf State Park golf course where she retired from the state with full benefits. You often hear the expression "she'd give you the shirt off her back", and while this expression may not apply to Kim, because she really loved her shirts, She would be the first one to feed you and to make you feel loved. A survivor of cancer, Sung Bun Parnell defyed odds her whole life and was loved by so many. Any person who ever knew her was engaged in her outgoing personality and she would be a friend, or an instant family member forever. We rest in the peace of knowing that "Kim & Jerry" are together once
