Mr. Jean Brown

July 28, 1931 - February 17, 2019

It is with sadness that the family of Jean Arthur Brown announces his passing, on Sunday February 17, 2019, at the age of 87. Born in Anniston, Alabama on July 28, 1931, joining the Army at 20. Leaving as a Corporal after two years and rejoining civilian life he worked for the Alabama State Highway Department (now ALDOT) as a Civil Engineer, where he stayed happily until he retired after 31 years. Retirement saw him spend much of his time as a stay-at-home dad, where he passed on his penchant for tinkering and tools to his son and daughter. In his twilight years he discovered his true love, the family dogs, with the pictures in his pocket to prove it. As a young man his passion was for amateur drag-racing, keeping his hotrod Lil’ Bit in repair and winning races. Jean’s memories live on in the hearts of his wife of 41 years Joan, his daughter Jessica, and his two sons Jason and Rickey. Two grandchildren, Brian and Jennifer, will keep him in their hearts beside their tenacious mother, his daughter, Jerri Lynn. A third grandchild, Rickey Jean Jr., will keep his name fresh on our lips. Jean was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, and daughter Jerri Lynn. There will be a Wake in memory for Jean held on Wednesday, February 20th 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Pine Rest Funeral Home & Memorial Park located at 16541 US-98, Foley, AL. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, with a one hour lie-in-state visitation at 10:30, to be followed at noon by interment and graveside officiation offered by James Martin. Pallbearers will be Mike Grice, Carmi Lowery, Brian Smith, Bob Pyatt, Joe Sanders. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations in memory of Jean can be made to The Haven (http://www.havenforanimals.org) at https://havenforanimals.networkforgood.com. The Haven is a no-kill shelter seeking to rescue dogs and cats and find them forever homes.
