Mr. Donald Hubert Graves

Donald Hubert Graves, born on April 22, 1933, died in his home surrounded by his loved ones on August 31, 2019. He was 86. Don was born in Louisiana, but grew up in Greenwood, Alabama, where he met and married his high school sweetheart. Don joined the Air Force where he attained the rank of Master Sergeant. After 24 year of serving his country in multiple states and countries, Don retired and moved with his family back home to Alabama in 1972. He bought Meme’s restaurant in Bon Secour. In 1974, he and his wife opened the Shrimp Boat restaurant in Gulf Shores. Along with his wife Barbee and his family, the restaurants were a favorite among locals and patrons from across the southeast. Don is survived by his youngest son, Dean Graves; a brother, Bob Graves and a sister, Joanne Wallace; four grandchildren, Chi Gibson, Che Graves, Ryan Graves and Tyler Graves; seven great-grandchildren, Jean-Pierre Marc-Charles, Amber Gibson, Marley Gibson, Pearl Gibson, Aaron Smith, Alyssa Smith and Escher Graves; and his companion of 15 years, Linda Schaff. Don was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Barbee Graves; two sons, Michael (Mick) Graves and Craig Graves; a granddaughter Amber Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Shriners’ Hospitals for Children.
