Mr. William Farrell "Buddy" Petrey

William Farrell “Buddy” Petrey, age 91, a resident of Saraland, Al and a former native of Claude, Al departed this earth into Heaven March 22, 2025. He was born on February 14, 1934 in Montgomery, Al to James B. and Lenora Newman Petrey, Buddy was the second of six children. Buddy is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Charlie Jean Overstreet Petrey, his infant son William Michael, parents James and Lenora Petrey, brother James Harrell Petrey and sister Melvia Dean Petrey Bottoms Withers. Buddy grew up in Claude, Al on the family farm. He attended Elmore County High School in Eclectic Alabama where he was a football and basketball player. He was voted “Most Athletic” his senior year in 1954. After graduation he was drafted into the United States Army. He went to basic training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina, then in December of 1954 he shipped out to Okinawa, Japan where he was a medic. After being discharged from the Army he returned to the family farm in Claude but decided he would move to Mobile, Al where he went to work at the shipyard. He later went to work for International Paper Company in Mobile where he worked for thirty five years until he retired. At retirement he was a Front Line Foreman, Buddy is survived by his sons, Randall Wayne Petrey (Teresa) of Lutcher, La, Timothy Farrell Petrey of Saraland, Al, granddaughters Amber Petrey (Amanda), of Pauline, La, Sarah Petrey Blough of Gonzales, La, Angela Petrey Barton (Myles) of Daphne, Al, Allison Petrey Clark (Dane) of Daphne, Al, great grandchildren Jace, Brooks, Avery, and Sophie Clark, Rhett and Isaac Barton, Layla, Brynn, Addie and Jay Petrey, Ella and Anna Blough. He is also survived by three siblings Dorothy Jean Petrey Peoples of Alford, Fl, Jearlean Petrey Stowe (Jerry) of Foley, Al and Dr. Winfred Darrell Petrey of Saraland, Al. Pallbearers will be Dr. Darrell Petrey, Mike Peoples, Curtis Bottoms, James Wilson, Ethan Burt and Eric McCovery. Honorary pallbearers will be David Peoples and Phillip Bottoms. The funeral will be conducted by Pastor Drew Whittington, Foley First Baptist Church and Chaplin Shawn Mizelle, Aveanna Hospice of Mobile. The family would like to thank all of the caring staff at Aveanna Hospice of Mobile for taking care of our loved one in his last days on this earth. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Buddy’s name to the Foley First Baptist Church “Family Support Ministry” or Aveanna Hospice of Mobile in his memory, Visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Pine Rest Funeral Home, Foley, Al for family at 10AM, friends at 11AM. Funeral to follow at 12 Noon in the Chapel. Interment will follow in Pine Rest Memorial Park with Military Honors and the reading of the 23rd Psalm by nephew Phillip Bottoms and closing prayer by Chaplin Shawn Mizelle
