Mary Rush Schreiber

After a brief but heroic battle with cancer, Mary Rush Schreiber died on July 5, 2026. She was 81. Mary Rush was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church for almost fifty years, where she was a volunteer for the flower committee. A native of Alabama, she was a graduate of Auburn University and a loyal Auburn fan who told her children they could go to any university except the University of Alabama. She was a retired school teacher who taught third grade at Foley Elementary School for over twenty years. She joked that she chose to teach third grade because that was the highest math she could successfully solve. Mary Rush was gifted with talent as a unique, creative interior decorator. She admired folks whom she observed and would exclaim “they know how to do”. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert “Bob” Schreiber, Sr. of Foley, a daughter, Valerie Schreiber (Scott) Raszeja, of Jefferson, GA, a son, Robert “Rob” Schreiber, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, grandchildren Cory (Bayana) Raszeja, Eric Raszeja, Dylan Schreiber, and Nicholas “Nicko” Schreiber, great-grandchildren Rafa, Luke, and Theo, sister-in-law, Lola Schreiber, sisters-in-law, Jean (Mike) Willis, and Joan (“Tug”) Bush, son-in-law, Daniel “Dan” Messer, and many wonderful nieces and hews and grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” (Dan) Schreiber; her parents, James and Adeline Miltenberger; her parents-in-law, Arnold and Bessie Schreiber; her sister and brother-in-law, Mathilde “Teal” and Frederic “Bud” Griffin, Sr.; her brothers-in-law, Walter “Walt” Schreiber, Edward “Ed” Schreiber, and Marion Schreiber. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St.Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in Foley, AL, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life and funeral lunch will follow in the Parish Center behind the church. Interment will be July 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort. Pall Bearers are Robert “Rob” Schreiber, Jr., Dylan Schreiber, Nicholas “Nicko” Schreiber, Scott Raszeja, Daniel “Dan” Messer, and William “Bill” Sessions. Honorary Pall Bearers are Ralph Hellmich, Wayne Trawick, and Bill Summerville.
