Mrs. Martha L Hines

Martha L Hines of Fairhope, Alabama passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025. Martha Lavern McAnally was born October 7, 1933, in Bolivar, Tennessee to Orrie and Ruby McAnally. At age 5, her mother passed away from Tuberculosis and two years later her father went off to war. She and her older sister Mary Eloise were sent to live at St. Peters Orphanage in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, she moved to Memphis to work for Union Planters Bank downtown. In 1955 she met and married the love of her life, a navy man by the name of Bailey Eugene “Gene” Hines. When their daughter Angie was born Martha became a full-time mother and homemaker and was the happiest, she had ever been. Martha built her life around Angie from making mud pies in the yard to never missing a game when she cheered in high school and watching her dance as a Grizzlies Grannie and Grandpa as an adult; she was beyond proud of her daughter. September 16, 1994, Gene passed away and Martha immediately moved in with Angie, Ricky and Wendy and started her next chapter of life. The joy of her life was her granddaughter, Wendy. She was deeply blessed to have shared time with her precious granddaughter who referred to her as “Nanny.” When Wendy was little, she taught her the lyrics to “You Are My Sunshine.” During their time together they enjoyed dancing in the living room to old 50’s records, playing outside in the rain, and baking cookies and pies. In her 40’s she even taught Wendy how to roller skate. Later she was blessed to share her life and legacy with two great grandsons Jackson & Sebastian. Martha cherished being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She held her family and friends in the highest regard. Martha’s hobbies included participating in the Red Hat Society, a worldwide membership society that encourages women in their quest to get the most out of life. Thrift store shopping with friends, spending time with family and watching her hallmark movies. She was a caring person who never met a stranger. Martha loved life to the fullest, just like she loved her family. Martha was a devout Catholic, enjoyed attending mass and had extraordinary faith. At times it seemed like her prayers had a direct line to the Lord. She greeted everyone with a beautiful smile and a warm hug. Martha loved to dance and continued to dance all the way to her 91st birthday. We are sure she is still dancing in heaven. She will be dearly missed by her family and longtime friends who cherished her laughter and generous heart. Martha is survived by her daughter Angie Jackson (Richard), her granddaughter Wendy Harrison (Michael), her great grandsons Jackson Harrison and Sebastian Harrison and her bonus granddaughters Lauren Huggins and Heather Ashton as well as several loving nieces and friends. Martha is proceeded in death by her beloved husband Bailey Eugene “Gene” Hines, her sister Mary Eloise Keel and her parents Orrie and Ruby McAnally. Martha’s celebration of life will be at the Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, Alabama on Saturday, July 5th at 11:00 AM.
