Linda Maria Lawhorn

Linda Maria Lawhorn was born in Memphis, Tennessee on November 30, 1942. She passed from this life to the next on September 3, 2017. Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Semsch and Joseph Charlie Hanson; precious son, Kevin Scott; and her husband of 38 years, Jack Lawhorn. Linda leaves behind her son, Gerald Shelton Lawhorn; daughter-in-law, Carol Lawhorn; 3 grandchildren, Joshua (Mary) Lawhorn, Tony (Tara) Lancour and Andy (Amy) Lancour; 3 great-grandchildren, Avery Lancour, Bryn Lancour and Kira Kimmons; two sisters, Teresa Mann and myself, Sharon Todd; brother, Keith Hanson; a host of friends from the Grove, especially Ben, Mary and Patty; and neighbor, Joe, just to name a few. Shell asked me to share a few memories of Linda. Anyone who knew Linda at all, knew that Linda loved her family. Linda and I had what Teresa and I call a sisterhood. Once, Linda was having some down times and said she needed some sisterhood. So Teresa and I left Memphis late one Friday night. Just before arriving at Linda's home, we pulled off the side of the road, opened our suitcases and changed clothes, putting on our pajamas outside of the car. We got back in the car and drove to her house, rang the doorbell (we sure were hoping no one would driveby and see these crazy women in their undies) to her surprise and hoping we could put a smile on her face. Jack knew we were coming but Linda didn't. Jack had the camera ready. Sisterhood I recall once when I was going through a bad time, emotional because of some health issues my husband was having. Teresa and Linda said "sisterhood time". So we went on a cruise. Laughing, playing and encouraging me. Sisterhood time. Our baby sister, Teresa had a very serious car wreck, where she and her husband were almost killed, except for the grace of God. Linda did not leave the ICU waiting room for several days and then there was a great deal thereafter. SISTERHOOD time. I always called Linda, Lucy, like on the Peanuts cartoon strip. When Teresa and I need just to "talk" really just needed someone to listen to, she always felt necessary to give advice. Linda always thought she had to give everyone advice. You know what I mean, ladies. Shell, you were her pride and joy. She would brag how good looking you were and how smart you were, especially after marrying Carol. Oh how she loved you, Shell and Carol, that words can not tell. Shell was always her Rock. Joshua, she so loved you. She loved the trips you and her took when you were just a youngster. The special talks you and she had. The laughter, the special moments. Memories, Joshua, memories. Then Carol came into her family. She brought with her two sons. Two more grandsons to love. Tony, she would often say if I ever have car trouble, Tony will take care of me. She depended on you. She loved you so much. Andy, she remarked how organized, precise and just all together a great grandson. She loved you, Andy, so much. She always said you took after Shell so much. She was so proud of the men her grandsons grew in to.- such good, loving men. Then there were the great-grandchildren. I love bragging on my grandson, Evan. Teresa would start to brag on her children. But no matter how much I would brag, she would always come back with a YEA YEA YEA, have I told you about Avery, Bryn or Kira and what they were doing. Teresa and I would scold her about her babysitting adventures. Linda said you're too old for that, you just wear yourself out, but she would always come back with how much she enjoyed doing that. How she loved those girls. Babies are made to be rocked and spoiled. Then there was Kira, I would tell her Evan made the honor roll, so did Kira. Kira is so smart and such a beautiful girl. The conversations always changed to how proud she was of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memories, Bama games will not be the same. Hearing her scream ROLL TIDE ROLL. Holidays, Linda loved holidays. She loved being with her family and celebrating birthdays, Christmases and Thanksgivings. Those were special times for Linda. They were all so special to her because that's when her whole family came together. Where she bought special, unique gifts for each of you. Times she could express her love. Memories, precious memories. Today, our hearts are sad and heavy. I am reminded of the Word of God when He reminds us. In Psalms 30, weeping may tarry for the night but joy comes in the moring. Ecclesiastes 3:4 tells us there is a time to weep, a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance. Linda would have it no other way. She would not have us sad and weeping but she would want us to celebrate her life with us; to leave with precious, happy memories of the time we all shared together with her. Happy memories, that's what Linda would want us to go away with. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2017, from 1:00-2:00 at Pine Rest Funeral Home with a funeral service following.
