Mrs. Lillian Lucille Mimms Teate

Lillian Lucille Mimms Teate, 96, of Foley, AL, passed away peacefully at the home of her son surrounded by family on Sunday, August 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Henry C Teate, Sr; parents, Joseph Levi Mimms, Sr and Narcissa Lucille Graham Mimms; siblings, Nell Marie Mimms Floyd, Joseph Levi Mimms, Jr., Joseph Leon Mimms, Chapple Harris Mimms, Malcolm Laroy Mimms, Glenda Faye Mimms; and step-daughter, Margie Coleman. Lillian was born in Pensacola, FL on Feb 5, 1923, the second of eight children. She married Henry in 1945 in her hometown and later settled in Foley, AL in 1953 where she raised her family and alongside Henry operated Teate’s Department Store at the SE corner of Highways 98 and 59 until they retired in 1973. She then began volunteering at the Clothes Closet and continued that service to the community for almost 3 decades. Lillian was a member of Foley United Methodist Church for over 64 years, faithfully attending weekly through her 95th year of life. As a member of Circle 5 (Lydia Circle) and the Crusade Sunday school class from the beginning of her church membership, she held officer positions, volunteered with VBS, cooked, served and exemplified her faith through her actions. Lillian was selfless with her time often caring for ailing family members, visiting shut-in friends and serving the community. Lillian enjoyed traveling immensely, frequently with two of her brothers to destinations all over the United States as well as an adventure to Europe with her son and his family. Her greatest joy was her family. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will carry many fond memories of “Mom” and “Gran”. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Beth (Lloyd) Turner, Fairhope, AL; son, Joe (Sondra) Teate, Fairhope, AL; brother, William Keith Mimms, Pensacola, FL; step-son, Henry (Mary) Teate, Gulf Shores, AL; sister-in-law, Bobbie Mimms Williams, D’Iberville, MS; grandchildren, Joe Teate, Jr, Alpharetta, GA, Lisa Turner (Storm) Floyd, Fairhope, AL, and Karen Teate (Jason) Bailey, Hoover, AL; step-grandchildren, Les Coleman, Tallahassee, FL, Cathy Coleman Sherk, Pelham, AL, Sharon Teate (Michael) Littlefield, Richmond Hill, GA, and Elaine Teate (Steve) Snyder, Newburgh, IN; great grandchildren, Liz Floyd, Fairhope, AL, and Kira Bailey, Hoover, AL.; and numerous step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at 11:30 am at Pine Rest Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:30 am. Internment will be in Pine Rest Memorial Park. The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made to: Prodisee Pantry, Spanish Fort, AL; Family Promise of Baldwin County, Summerdale, AL; or Foley United Methodist Church, Foley, AL.
