Mrs Glenn D Matthews

Glenn D. “Sis” Matthews, 90, of Foley, Alabama, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Eastern Shore Rehab in Daphne, AL. Glenn was born on March 18, 1935, in McDowell, Alabama. Before graduating high school, she met her future husband, Gene, during a beach visit to Gulf Shores. After high school, Glenn attended Secretarial School and began her career in administrative work with Standard Oil Company. Although marriage wasn’t an early priority, she and Gene were married in 1957 and welcomed their daughter, Deborah, the following year. Throughout her professional life, Glenn worked in a variety of fields including legal, publishing, educational financial aid, insurance, and medical sales. Her work ethic and adaptability were evident throughout her many jobs. During their 59 years of marriage, Glenn and Gene lived in several states including Alabama, New Jersey, West Virginia, and Arkansas before returning to Alabama in 2002. Glenn was a vibrant and active woman who enjoyed cooking, entertaining, square dancing, crocheting, cross stitch, candle making, church activities, casino visits, college football, travel, and especially playing bridge. She was proud to have visited all 50 U.S. state capitals and Washington, D.C. Back in Alabama, she found joy in welcoming visitors and playing bridge with several groups. Glenn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gene; her parents, Merle and Louis Dobson; her brothers, Charles Dobson and Clyde David Dobson; brother-in-law, Mack Matthews, niece, Gail Jacobs; and nephew, Sonny Dobson. She is survived by her beloved and loyal daughter, Deborah, of Aurora, IL; sisters-in-law, Flora Grimes of Gulf Shores, and Doret Matthews of Mobile; nephews, Bill Matthews (Dallas, TX), Doug Matthews (Mobile, AL), John Matthews (Mobile, AL), and Marc Dobson (Birmingham, AL); great-nieces, Robyn Menendez (Tampa, FL) and Alison Philips (Houston, TX); and great-nephews, Jeff Dobson (Lanexa, VA), John Jacobs (Gulf Shores, AL), Brian Matthews (Houston, TX), and Garett Matthews (Albany, GA). Glenn will be dearly missed by family and longtime friends and neighbors, who cherished her laughter, spirited opinions, and generous heart. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Pine Rest Funeral Home in Foley, Alabama, on Monday, June 23, beginning at 9:00 AM. Pallbearers: Brad Dampeer, Edison Dao, Doug Matthews, John Matthews, Jim Pritchard, and Toby Swindle.
