Mr. David Foster Dalton

David Foster Dalton was born on September 5, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia, to Evelyn and Harry Dalton, after Harry returned from serving in World War II. He grew up alongside his older siblings, Joyce Ann and Harry Moncure, in a close-knit family shaped by the values of a post-war generation. David passed peacefully at home on April 20, 2026, surrounded by love, with his devoted wife, Kathy, by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Harry Dalton. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his daughter, Margaret Evelyn Dalton; his son, David Foster Dalton, Jr. (Chip), and Chip’s spouse, Kaila; and his cherished grandchildren, Foster, Evelyn, Jacob, and Abigail. He is also survived by his siblings, Joyce Conger and Harry Dalton. David held his family close to his heart and took great pride in each of them. David graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in 1966. That same year, he made the courageous decision to leave college and enlist in the United States Army, beginning a distinguished 22-year military career. He served two tours in Southeast Asia, where he was exposed to Agent Orange, a sacrifice that reflected his deep sense of duty and love of country. In 1980, David met and married Kathy Brown after a whirlwind four-month courtship, beginning what he would often call his favorite role: being a husband and father. Together, they built a life centered on love and family, welcoming Maggie in 1982 and Chip in 1984. Following his military service, David continued his commitment to public service through his work in technology development and implementation. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service in 2010, after which he and Kathy relocated to Foley, Alabama. It was in Foley that David found what was his most joyful job in his professional life—working at the City of Foley Welcome Center. He loved greeting visitors, sharing stories, and helping others discover the charm of the community he had come to love. At home, David was an excellent cook who especially loved grilling, often bringing people together over a good meal. He was an avid reader and enjoyed engaging in lively debates with those closest to him—always thoughtful, often spirited, and rooted in his deep curiosity and conviction. He and Kathy created a home that was known for its warmth and welcome; among their children’s friends, David was especially remembered for his kindness and generosity. Many have reached out to share how included and at ease they always felt in the Dalton home.
