Cynthia Fell Sute

The sweetest mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Cynthia Fell Sute, of Foley, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on July 6, 2024, surrounded by her three loving sons. The baby of five girls born to Rodney and Bernice Fell, Cynthia - also known as Cindy to many and Sissy to some - was always a positive person, often focused on supporting those around her. Born and raised in, and a proud life-long resident of Foley, she loved her sisters, the University of Alabama football, and Atlanta Braves baseball. She enjoyed visiting Asheville, North Carolina, and the Biltmore Estate in particular on multiple occasions. She was a proud member of the Poarch Creek Indian Tribe, adored Elvis music, and had an affinity for dragonflies. Always one to have the television on, she followed game shows and animal programs, often subjecting visitors to marathon episodes of Dr. Pol and Family Feud. During her lifetime, she faithfully attended St. Margaret’s Catholic Church and later in life First Baptist Church, both in Foley, and she was a long-time fan of Bill and Gloria Gaither gospel music. Cynthia was also a big fan of sports that her boys played and her husband Bill coached in the Foley community. She was an especially passionate baseball mom, enjoying many a game at local Foley parks. As her boys grew and had children of their own, she became an equally passionate grandmother, cheering on and encouraging each grandchild with pride in whatever activity they might enjoy - whether football, baseball, soccer, theater, cheer, and more. Without a doubt, she loved her grandchildren deeply - all nine- plus a recent addition - her first great-grandson. She also greatly missed her husband Bill who passed in 2004, and she released a balloon annually on his birthday in July. Cynthia spent many years volunteering with St. Benedict’s Catholic School where all three of her boys attended through eighth grade, and she coordinated the school’s annual car raffle for many years. When the outlet mall opened in Foley, Alabama, she ventured into retail, working at stores like OshKosh B’Gosh, Liz Claiborne, and eventually serving as manager at Ellen Tracey, putting her strong people and customer service skills to great use. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards with friends on Tuesdays and Fridays, often politely but quickly ending phone calls with family if they inadvertently called during a good game of “hand and foot.” Most recently, as her health declined, and daily assistance became part of her life’s journey, she grew friendships with and love for the many women who served as her caregivers around the clock. Cynthia is survived by sons Brent Sute (and wife Kellie) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Michael Sute (and wife Jeri) of Acworth, Georgia; and Preston Sute (and wife PJ) of Foley, Alabama. She is also survived by granddaughter Jordan Norton (and husband Jake and son Beau (Mrs. Sute’s first great-grandchild)) of Marietta, Georgia; as well as grandchildren Hunter, Conner, Carson, and Allie Grace Sute of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; Will and Zach Sute of Acworth, Georgia; and Fell and Molly Sute of Foley, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rodney and Bernice (Steadham) Fell; her husband William F. Sute; and her sisters, Virginia, Mildred, Mary Lou, and Nan. She was the last of her generation of Fell women, and undoubtedly enjoyed a special reunion with her sisters, husband (just in time for his heavenly birthday), parents, and other loved ones in heaven to the backdrop of an OWA fireworks show on the evening of July 6, 2024. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Foley, Alabama, from 1-2 PM, followed by services there at 2 PM and graveside services immediately following at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
