Mrs. Cora Jacqueline "Jackie" Patterson

Cora Jacqueline (Jackie) McSwain Patterson Jackie Patterson, age 65, of Gulf Shores, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2019. Jackie was the most giving, selfless, and compassionate soul. Her kind nature and infectious personality was evident immediately upon your first meeting. Jackie never met a stranger and would open her home to host and entertain at the drop of a hat. Jackie touched countless lives, far and wide. Her work took her to distant places on the map and at every stop she made countless friends, many who have reached out to the family even many years after their work relationship ended. She will be greatly missed. Jackie was born in Indianola, Mississippi, on September 8, 1954, to Jack L. McSwain and Ida A. McSwain. During her youth, she lived in Jackson, Mississippi, and Memphis, Tennessee, before moving to Birmingham, Alabama, where she graduated from Mountain Brook High School in 1972. She attended Ole Miss, graduating in 1976. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority where she forged deep and lifelong friendships with many sisters. After college, she settled in Aberdeen, Mississippi, where she ultimately met her loving husband, Rob Patterson. They were married November 18, 1995, and settled in Gulf Shores. Jackie enjoyed a long and rewarding career as a title, right-of-way and leasing agent in the oil and gas and utility easement industry. Jackie loved the beach and coastal living. Her passions were Ole Miss football and tailgating, entertaining, cooking, interior design, antiques, and travel. Jackie was also a gifted pianist. Perhaps her greatest passion outside of fellowship was her heart for animals. Through the years, Jackie would surround herself with loving rescue dogs and cats and often took provisions to shelters to help in the efforts. Jackie is survived by her mother, Ida A. McSwain, also of Gulf Shores, devoted husband Robert D. Patterson, Jr., brother Michael A. McSwain (Brenda), niece Allison C. McSwain and nephew Ryan C. McSwain, along with a host of cousins. Jackie will also be greatly missed by Rob’s 3 sisters and families, Jan Lee Martin (Peter), her children John Dewey and Thomas Lee, Victoria Martin (Sam), her children Patterson and Janson, and Mary Reed Evans and her children Luisa and William Porter and Sykes Evans. Jackie’s circle of friends never stopped growing and the hundreds upon hundreds of them mourn with the family now. Services will be held at Pine Rest Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 16541 US-98 Foley, Alabama 36535, with family friend, Reverend Tim Sheldon, officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with chapel and graveside services to follow. A time of remembrance and fellowship will take place at Jackie and Rob’s home immediately following the service.
