Mrs Barbara Kaemmerer Bultemeyer

Barbara Kaemmerer Bultemeyer, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 18th , 2026, held in the faith that guided her every step. Born in Monroe County, Alabama, and a longtime resident of Gulf Shores, she had the bearing of a regal Southern woman and carried with her a grace, warmth, and hospitality that made everyone feel welcome — whether they were family, friends, or someone she’d just met. In December of 1951, she married Otto Leo Kaemmerer, Jr. and settled in the tiny town of Gulf Shores, Alabama. A woman of many talents, she spent years as a beautician, opening Barbara’s Beauty Shop in the 1950s when Gulf Shores was no more than a small fishing village, a few wooden motels and cottages, and dusty roads. From governors’ wives to locals, she made others feel confident and cared for with her gentle hands and easy laughter. She later worked alongside her husband as proud owners of their marina, Canal Marine, keeping the books with the same precision and dedication she brought to everything she touched. He preceded her in death on December 5th , 2002. She then married Roland Bultemeyer in November of 2004. They had many lovely years of traveling before he preceded her in death on August 9th , 2021. Her love of travel took her far beyond her Southern roots. She embraced every journey with curiosity and joy, collecting memories, stories, and friendships along the way. She could make the best fried shrimp you ever tasted, a skill that brought family and friends to her table time and again. Those friends knew her as an avid participant in yoga, possibly wearing the crown for longest attending member of beginner yoga after nearly 20 years, and she attended classes into her 91 st year. If you were lucky enough to know her, you probably got a card from her for most of life’s major celebrations and losses. She truly was the “gold standard” for card sending having been meticulous and punctual when sending birthday and Christmas cards, ensuring no one ever felt forgotten. Her faith was the steady foundation of her life. As a longtime choir member and organist for her church, she filled Sunday mornings with music that lifted hearts and strengthened spirits. Her gift for worship was one of the many ways she shared her love with her community. She is survived by her children Otto Russell Kaemmerer (Lou), Kay Kaemmerer Hobbs (Russell), her grandchildren Andrea Brookshire (Zach), Emily Hobbs, Abigail Yabut (Eddie), Patrick Hobbs (Tory), Randall Kaemmerer (Jennifer), Eric Kaemmerer, and Marie Kaemmerer, and 5 great grandchildren who will forever cherish her kindness, her humor, and the beautiful example she set. A service celebrating her life will be held on July 25th, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in Foley, AL from 11:00am to 12:00pm.
